Things are changing….

The functions of the former National Educational Welfare Board, and the services previously provided by the NEWB, are now part of the Child and Family Agency, which was established by law on 1 January 2014. All the information currently on this site is now in the process of being moved over to Tusla’s new website at www.tusla.ie.

Minister Quinn publishes new anti-bullying procedures and announces €40,000 funding for anti-bullying training for parents
The Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D, has published new anti-bullying procedures to be adopted and implemented by all 4,000 primary and post primary schools. The new procedures and associated Department Circular 0045/13 are now published on www.education.ie.

Draft Heads of School Admissions Bill Published
In September 2013, the Minister published a Draft General Scheme for an Education (Admission to Schools) Bill, 2013 as well as draft regulations for discussion ahead of enacting legislation. The Minister has stated that his aim in bringing forward legislative proposals in relation to school admission is to improve the admissions process and to ensure that the way schools decide on applications is structured, fair and transparent.

The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Ms Frances Fitzgerald T.D., has informed the National Educational Welfare Board (NEWB) that the Government has decided to proceed with the drafting of a Bill to establish the Child and Family Support Agency (CFSA).
